Moving to Louisiana...98% Sure

Most of you know that Doug and I went to Louisiana this past week for a job interview and to visit Doug's parents. We are still not 100% sure that we are moving but we are PRETTY SURE. We are just waiting for the official offer. Here is how the job interview portion of our visit went. I will post pics and more stories about the fun stuff we did later.

We went to Baton Rouge and had lunch with a man named Larry who works for the Southern Baptisit Convention in Baton Rouge. He then took us around Baton Rouge to see different places to live and different multihousing complexes where Doug would be doing his ministry. He also took us to meet a man named Roddie who works for the Baton Rouge Association and he would be the one interviewing, hiring and in charge of Doug. We stayed at Larry's home that night and then in the morning Doug had his interview. The interview was conducted by Roddie and a committee. Doug said the interview could not have gone better and by the next day we already had some inside information that the committee picked Doug out of all the people they interviewed.

Then things got complicated...

The Association was not sure they wanted this position and it seemed like they were backing out (there are alot of politics invovled that I won't go into). But the convention told Doug that he was the one they wanted for the job and they were going to make it happen- they might find another association or a church sponsor. To us this was not good news. Finding another association would be a lengthy process and if a church was involved they would expect Doug to work for them as well. Doug said to me "I wish the convention would hire me and that Larry would be my supervisor".

Then things got good...

It looks like what Doug was wishing is what is going to happen! Doug will work for the Southern Baptist Convention! His goal has always been to someday work for the convention but there aren't really any young guys in the convention. His other dream has always been to be a regional strategist. Well guess what... Now the convention wants to hire him as a catalystic regional strategist!!! And Larry would be his supervisor!!! They are having a meeting today at the convention to figure out all the details. Hopefully they will call soon and give us the "official" offer. They could want us there as early as June 1st.

So we are in waiting mode again... I'll let you know when things are "official" and when we know all the details!
