Prodromal Labor
Vanessa has been having contractions since 10 last night. We thought that we might end up at the hospital this morning, but it's a no go : ( Although her contractions are comming at regular intervals (7-10 min apart) and are quite painful, they are not getting any closer or any stronger. It turns out Vanessa is experiencing Prodromal labor. Prodromal labor can feel very much like active labor, yet is not consistently progressive. It does, though, serve an important function in the birth process. Prodromal labor does the preliminary work of preparing the uterus, baby and cervix for birth. All of this work has to be done before the baby can be born. Prodromal labor contractions may begin hours or even days before active labor. We are hoping that this phase does not last for days and is a sign that active labor is comming. Please pray that Aila comes soon!!!
